This message is to make you aware of a COVID situation at our elementary school.
We were informed today and advised by the state that employees in the second-grade level need to quarantine due to a community case outside of the school that has reached that team of employees. On Monday, there was a presumed positive that now requires 4 additional quarantines.
There are NO STUDENTS who are considered to be close contacts due to the lack of students on our Monday preparation day.
We will be moving the second grade to remote learning for the remainder of school days up to the winter break. Remote school details will be shared with you via teachers and the building leaders. We do not have enough substitute teachers to cover the second grade and prefer our students to have their regular teacher remotely.
Thank you for your help in containing viral spread by distancing, hygiene, masks, and adhering to guidance around gatherings and increased exposure.
We will continue to monitor cases, listen to the state guidance, and make the best local decisions possible.

FYI- People should stay home when they are sick. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness that ranges from mild to severe. It can be more severe in adults 60 years and older and in those with underlying conditions. The virus mainly spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes and an uninfected person breathes in the virus. Signs and symptoms include the following:
• fever or chills • cough
• shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• fatigue • muscle or body aches • headache
• new loss of taste or smell • sore throat
• congestion or runny nose
• nausea or vomiting or diarrhea
What is the CDC definition of close contact for the coronavirus disease?
Close contact is defined by CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic clients, 2 days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. The World Health Organization (WHO) additionally includes persons with direct physical contact with a probable or confirmed case, direct care for a patient with probable or confirmed COVID-19 disease without using proper personal, and other situations as indicated by local risk assessments.
